'Wild Things:' Ridgefield Library Celebrates Maurice Sendak's Birthday RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — In honor of beloved children's author and Ridgefield resident, Ridgefield Library will host Maurice Sendak Birthday Celebration for families with children ages 3 to 8 on Saturday, June 10. Sendak was the author of the famous children's book "Where The Wild Things Are" as well as "In the Night Kitchen" and "Outside Over There." He was 83 when from complications of a stroke in Danbury. Activities will include stories, food and crafts from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  No registration is required for the event.

Ridgefield Cancels Memorial Day Parade Due To Rain RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — For the second year in a row, Ridgefield has canceled its Memorial Day Parade due to a rainy forecast, according to the Ridgefield Press.  An indoor Memorial Day celebration will go on as planned at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 29.  There will be speeches from the grand marshal and honorary grand marshal as well as from First Selectman Rudy Marconi is also expected to give remarks during the ceremony, the Press said.
