Ridgefield Basketball Star Kurt Steidl Scores Season-High 18 For Vermont

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Ridgefield’s Kurt Steidl scored a season-high 18 points for the University of Vermont on Thursday in a 58-57 loss to Yale.

Steidl, a sophomore, has started seven games for Vermont (5-5). He is averaging 8.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He also averages a team-high 27.9 minutes per game.

He also had six rebounds against Vermont. His 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining gave the Catamounts a 56-55 lead, but Yale's Matt Townsend sank a jumper with 4.1 seconds to give Yale the win.

Steidl was named to the America East All-Rookie team last year as a freshman. His career-high came last year when he scored 19 points against Sonoma State. He averaged 5.9 points per game and made two starts last year, and saw action in 32 games.

Steidl was named the 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut as a senior when he averaged 25 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for Ridgefield High School.

Steidl returns to Connecticut with Vermont when the Catamounts play at the University of Hartford on Saturday, Jan. 31.
