WILTON, Conn. Come Monday, Wilton will celebrate Memorial Day with a parade from Town Hall to Hillside Cemetery, where flags will be placed on the graves of Wilton veterans.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will end around noon. It will be led by Wilton bagpiper Drew Kennedy and former serviceman Robert Burns, the grand marshal.
All are welcome to participate in the parade to remember and support the nation's veterans and those from Wilton.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., police will begin closing off roads around the parade route, including the south end of River Road, Center Street at Route 33, and 33 to Belden Hill Road, Drum Hill Road and Middlebrook Farm Road. According to the police, traffic will be diverted and motorists will be able to use School Road and Middlebrook Farm Road between Route 7 and Route 33, or Wolfpit Road to Belden Hill to Drum Hill.
Once the parade passes Belden and Lovers Lane and the crowd clears, we will open all roads except Route 33 at Belden and Lovers through to Middlebrook Farm. These roads will remain closed until the conclusion of the ceremony at Hillside and the crowd has had a chance to return to the Center area. I would say probably around noon, said Police Capt. John Lynch.
The sides of the roads are likely to be full, so police suggest residents find their places early. Or they can opt for the Wilton Kiwanis Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Wilton Congregational Church from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
