RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - The Ridgefield police stopped a man who was driving while using a cellphone Wednesday morning and found that he had two outstanding warrants on charges of failure to appear in court, police said.
According to the police report, Jose Caraballo, 45, of Brookfield, had failed to appear in court in two separate cases out of Redding and Ridgefield. The particulars of the charges were not released.
During the traffic stop, police also determined that Caraballo was driving with a suspended license and had switched his license plates to a different car than registered.
Caraballo was charged with driving while using a cellphone, driving with a suspended license, misuse of registration plates and two counts of failure to appear in court warrants.
He was released on $1,500 bond and is due at Danbury Superior Court on May 29.
