Ridgefield Man Charged With Drunken Driving After Slamming Into Police Car

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- A Ridgefield man was arrested after police said he was intoxicated when he crashed into a police vehicle with his three children in the car, according to the News-Times.

Todd Schoenherr, 47, was driving north on Route 67 shortly after midnight Sunday when he turned left on a red light onto the Exit 15 on-ramp and hit a Southbury police car, the News-Times reported.

According to state police, Schoenherr, who had his wife and three children in the car, admitted to having “a couple drinks” and later failed a series of field sobriety tests. Schoenherr was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, risk of injury to a minor and failure to obey control signal. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 9 in court, said the News-Times.

The police officer involved, Kevin Burns, 52, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries, according to the News-Times.
