RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- A fire on Pine Mountain in Ridgefield burned roughly three acres of land not easily accessible for firefighters during Monday night, Fire Chief Heather Burford said Tuesday morning.

A small plane reported the fire to the Ridgefield Fire Department around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Burford told The Daily Voice that the fire was approximately 2,000 feet from any road and 200 feet up a rocky cliff face and away from most trails.

It is a "very difficult area to access," Burford said.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday the fire appeared to be out, she said, but that the department would be keeping a close eye on the area as forecasts are calling for a dry and windy day.

"We're expecting hot spots to flare up this afternoon with winds," Burford said.
