RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Police Department's enhanced 911 emergency contact telephone system will be able to handle text messages once the service reaches Connecticut, according to the Ridgefield Press.
The enhancements were done in September to enable callers to text rather than dial 911 in emergencies, said the Ridgefield Press.
Text capability keeps messages undisclosed, beneficial in calls regarding "domestic or terror" reports, according to the Ridgefield Press.
“We don’t have the capacity to receive texts yet, nor does anyone, but we were updated,” department spokesman Capt. Jeffery Kreitz told the Ridgefield Press.
