At 8:44 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank at 22 Church Hill Road in Newtown on a report of suspicious activity. Someone had gone to the entrance of the bank and seen that the word "HELP" had been written on the fogged-up glass, police said. Fearing that somebody was in trouble, the person called 911.

Responding officers saw several cars in the parking lot and several people inside the bank, conducting what appeared to be business as usual, police said. Officers knocked on the locked main entrance door and were let in by a manager.

They told the manager about the 911 call, and the manager told officers than an employee had written the word "HELP" on the glass as a joke to other employees. The employee, Alexis Barry of Newtown, was issued an infraction for creating a public disturbance.

"Obviously this type of prank puts the general public, other bank employees, and responding officers at an unnecessary risk, especially in the times and community we live in," said Newtown Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde.
