Namon Donnel Johnson of the Bronx was arrested Saturday after he fled on foot from Trumbull Police after being stopped and questioned about counterfeiting, department officials said in a press release.

Police were called to the mall around 7:15 p.m. after Johnson reportedly used a fake $100 bill to make a video game purchase at a store in the mall. The store clerk called police and Johnson was located and detained by an officer as he exited the mall.

Johnson briefly spoke with the officer and denied being the suspect but then took off running. As the officer pursued him, Johnson jumped off the upper level of a parking garage, landing on the hood of a car below, damaging it.

Johnson then resumed running and ran onto a raised parking lot where he again tried to leap off. This time, as he went over the wall, another officer was able to grab onto Johnson, and with help was able to pull Johnson back up and over the wall taking him into custody.

Two police officers were slightly injured as they stopped Johnson from jumping and took him into custody. Johnson himself complained of pain afterward and was treated at a local hospital.

An additional counterfeit bill was found in Johnson’s pocket, police said.

Police said there have been other similar incidents involving counterfeit bills linked to organized groups operating in the region and police are reviewing surveillance footage and investigating to determine if Johnson had accomplices.

He was charged with felony forgery, larceny, interfering and resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

Johnson was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 24.
