NEWARK, N.J. – Montclair resident Ernest Williams, 21, was charged Friday with the shooting death of Brian Schiavetti of Ridgefield, Conn., last Sunday in Montclair.

“Our detectives and those of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Major Crimes Task Force have been working around the clock, methodically investigating this homicide. I am very pleased with their efforts leading to the swift arrest of the suspect,’’ said Montclair Police Chief Sabagh.

Schiavetti was killed at a house on Williams Street in Montclair in what the Essex County Prosecutors Office said was a robbery.

Williams has been charged with one count of murder, one count of robbery and two weapons offenses. He is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $750,000 bail.

Schiavetti, 21, would have been a senior in the fall at the Villanova University School of Business in Pennsylvania. He had been working as intern at Thomson Reuters. His family and friends gathered for a private funeral service at St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield Thursday morning.
