Ridgefield's Gerald P. Brady, 84, Retired Professor At Columbia University

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Gerald P. Brady of Ridgefield, formerly of Larchmont, N.Y., died Wednesday, April 16. He was 84.

Brady was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Toronto, and was the son of Thomas and Florence (Hayes) Brady of Flushing, N.Y. He attended Flushing High School and graduated in the Class of 1947. He attended Columbia University, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a first lieutenant and an anti-aircraft artillery officer. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Columbia, where he earned his LLB from Columbia Law School in 1957 and his Master's of Science from the Graduate School of Business in 1958.

After working for a law firm for a brief period of time, he became a professor at Columbia in the Graduate School of Business, where he taught business law and taxation for over 30 years. He also wrote a number of books on law and taxation, including co-authoring seven editions of CPA Law Review, a leading publication in the field. He served as a consultant for many years for the AICPA. He retired from Columbia in 1994.

He was a resident of Ridgefield since 1980, coming from Larchmont.

Brady is survived by his wife, Maude (Wells) Brady; sons, Joseph Brady (Amy) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Peter (Liza) of Jersey City, N.J.; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours are Monday, April 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home , 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Sacred Heart Church; 30 Church St., Georgetown.

Contributions in Brady’s memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders , Habitat for Humanity or Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut .
