RIDGEFIELD, Conn. Its official: On Saturday, Aug. 18, the Ridgefield Library will close the doors to its longtime home on Main Street so construction can begin on its new building.
The library will reopen at 9 a.m. Sept. 4 in a temporary home in the old Balduccis storefront at 21 Governor St.
During the two-week closing, most of the library's services will be unavailable. Most notably, you wont be able to take out books. The few programs that will continue will be held at alternative locations, all of which are available on the library website.
For years, people have been asking us to open earlier during the week, Library Director Chris Nolan says. The move will mark the start of the new schedule: Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and during the school year, Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
While there will be changes to our services due to the size and nature of our temporary space, we have some very creative plans under way to remain a vital and vibrant part of Ridgefielders lives while we are awaiting completion of our beautiful new building, Nolan said.
Construction of the new building will take 16 to 18 months. The library will post updates on its website, Facebook page and Twitter.
