Sendak is best-known for “Where the Wild Things Are.” A longtime Ridgefield resident, he died in May 2012 at the age of 83.

Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia recently filed the lawsuit, which alleges the executors of Sendak’s estate have failed to comply with the author’s will.

About 98 percent of Sendak’s books, manuscripts, illustrations and other materials were housed at the museum. Sendak had a long relationship with the Rosenbach Museum and Library, dating to his first stint as a board member in 1973.

Officials with the Maurice Sendak Foundation exercised legal remedies to recall the multimillion-dollar collection, which Rosenbach officials fear will become part of a Christie’s auction scheduled for January, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
