New Netflix Series Set In Danbury's Federal Prison For Women

DANBURY, Conn. - Nearly a decade after Piper Kerman was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury and her book was released, her story is being told on the screen - the computer screen.

The Internet movie website, Netflix, has a new show starting July 11 called "Orange is the New Black." It is based on the experiences Piper Kerman wrote about in her book by the same title in the  Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury.

Netflix, the Internet movie website, has a new show starting July 11 called "Orange is the New Black." It is based off the experiences Kerman wrote about in her book of the same title.

According to a Netflix statement, "Orange is the New Black" follows engaged Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling, whose relationship with drug-runner Alex, Laura Prepon, is over a decade-old and results in her arrest and 15-month-long detention in a federal penitentiary.

The series, which has yet to premiere, has been extended to a second season, Netflix said.
