RIDGEFIELD, Conn. Take some time to take part in nature events with the Discovery Center at Ridgefield on Saturday, July 21.
The Discovery Center is hosting two events Saturday, a scavenger hunt and star gazing. The scavenger hunt will take place at Sturges Park on Rippowam Road at 11 a.m. Families can hike the trails and look for items all around the area. During the hunt, the leaders will talk about how to hike safely, what to do if you get lost and what to carry in a backpack. Afterward, families are invited to enjoy a picnic lunch or snack.
At 9 p.m., families are invited to go to Star Park off Prospect Ridge Road to search the skies. The viewing will look for Saturn and its rings as well as Mars. The moon will be close to the first quarter, which is when the craters and mountains are easier to see. Star gazers will also look for nebulae, star clusters and galaxies, the Discovery Center said.
Both events are free for center members and cost $7 for nonmembers. For more information, contact the center at 203-438-1063.
