Summer Starts With A Bang As Thunderstorms Approach Ridgefield

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The first day of summer could be a wet one in Fairfield County, as scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit Wednesday afternoon.

The showers and thunderstorms are predicted to arrive after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Some of the storms could produce damaging wind gusts of up to 23 mph. Other than the rain, the day is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 82. 

The wet weather will continue into Wednesday night, with showers and storms hitting before 8 p.m. After that it will be partly cloudy with a low around 58, and wind is expected to become calm in the evening.

The dry and seasonably warm weather will return on Thursday, which is expected to be mostly sunny during the day. The high will be near 81. There is an increasing chance of showers late Thursday night, mainly after 2 a.m. Otherwise the night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Friday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 86. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon ahead of an approaching front. This could bring with it isolated instances of damaging wind gusts or large hail. Friday night there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, followed by a chance of showers between midnight and 4 a.m. The low will be around 67.

There is a chance of showers before noon on Saturday, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 2 p.m. Otherwise the day will be partly sunny, with a high near 82. Saturday will be partly cloudy, with a low around 63. 

Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 81.
