Strong winds may knock down tree limbs and power lines, causing scattered power outages in the tristate area on Sunday.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for downstate New York, northern New Jersey and Fairfield County from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected with gusts up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph or gusts of 46 to 57 mph are expected or occurring.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, in open areas, and on elevated roads and bridges. Motorists are urged to use extra caution.

Showers are likely before noon Sunday, followed by scattered showers, with breaks of sun likely in the afternoon and a high around 50 degrees.
