Ridgefield Rower Will Row For U.S. In International Championships

NORWALK, Conn. -- Rowers from Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club picked up several gold medals this summer and qualified two athletes for the under-19 national team that will compete next month in the Netherlands.

Fairfield's Olivia Luther started CBC's hot summer with two medals at the CanAmMex Regatta. She rowed for the United States as it won the women's 4- and the women's 8. 

The regatta, which brings together junior rowers from the U.S., Canada and Mexico, was held in Sarasota, Fla.

At Club Nationals, Ella Petreski of Pound Ridge, N.Y., won gold in the u-17 women's 8 as part of the USRowing High Performance team.

Casey Batson of Darien and Petreski won bronze in U17 4x as part of the USRowing High Performance team.

Cece Challe of New Canaan also competed as a coxswain at Club Nationals as part of the invitation only “Ready, Set, Row” competitive girls summer program.

Kaitlyn Kynast of Ridgefield and Julia Cornacchia of Darien will compete at USRowing’s World Rowing Junior Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands Aug. 21-28 as part of USRowing’s U-19 National Team.

Kynast won a gold medal at last year's World Rowing Junior Championships while Cornacchia won a bronze. In June, Kynast and Cornacchia won gold in the pair at the USRowing Youth National Championships in New Jersey.
