Ridgefield Native Tucker West Named To USA Luge Team

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Ridgefield native Tucker West will once again be a member of the USA Luge National Team for the 2016-17 season.

West, 20, was the youngest member of the USA luge team at the Sochi Olympics. He earned two World Cup medals and was the U23 World Champion last season. 

He will join Chris Mazdzer, the third-ranked man, in the final 2015-2016 World Cup standings; Erin Hamlin, 2014 Olympic bronze medalist and 2009 World Champion; Summer Britcher, who tied for the most tour victories last season with three; and Emily Sweeney, a World Cup silver medalist. 

This past season, he won the U23 world title and scored World Cup silver and bronze medals to place seventh on the season. 

West is also a student at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. 

The national team will participate in the 2016-17 World Cup and World Championship season. The 2016-2017 season will be highlighted by the World Championships in Igls, Austria, and by an event on the new 2018 Olympic track in South Korea.
