Ridgefield Aquatic Club Takes 8th Place At State Age Group Meet

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Aquatic Club took eighth place overall at the Connecticut Age Group Championships at Wesleyan University in March.

Top swimmers from 55 teams around the state competed in the meet with the top 20 in each event scoring. Michael Cotter, 10, placed first in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle, third in the 100 individual medley and 50 free, fourth in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 fly.

Kieran Smith, 13, placed second in the 500 free, third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 backstroke and 200 free, seventh in the 100 free, and eighth in the 100 butterfly.

Leading the boys 11/12 age group was Luke Hruska, 12, who placed second in the 50 fly, fourth in the 100 back, eighth in the 100 IM, ninth in the 50 back and 200 IM and 10th in the 100 free.

Also scoring in the 11/12 age group was Ethan Murray, 12, placing third in the 200 fly, eighth in the 200 IM and 100 fly, ninth in the 500 free, 11th in the 200 free and 19th in the 100 IM; Connor Hunt, 11, placing second in the 200 fly, eighth in the 50 fly, 13th in the 100 fly, 16th in the 200 breast, and 18th in the 50 breast; Vidur Hareesh, 12, placing ninth in the 200 back, 10th in the 50 back, 12th in the 100 back, 17th in the 200 IM, 18th in the 200 free, and 20th in the 500 free; Colin Cotter, 12, placing 10th in the 200 IM, 12th in the 50 fly, 15th in the 200 back, 16th in the 50 back, and 20th in the 100 back; and Victor Cai , 12, placing 12th in the 50 breast, 13th in the 200 breast, 20th in the 100 breast.

The Seward sisters led the team in scoring for the RAC girls. Hannah, 10, placed third in the 50 fly, sixth in the 50 free, eighth in the 100 free, ninth in the 100 IM and 11th in the 100 back. Older sister Isabelle, 14, placed fifth in the 100 breast, 11th in the 50 free and 200 breast, and 13th in the 100 fly. 

Also scoring in the 10/under age group with Hannah were teammates Catherine Maguire, 10, placing 17th in the 500 free and 50 back; Emma Coakley, 10, placing 18th in the 50 breast and 19th in the 100 breast; Drue Yarmolowitz, 10, placing 16th in the 50 free; and Riley Reibling, 9, placing 19th in the 100 fly. The 10/U relay team of Maguire, Yarmolowitz, Reibling and Seward set new team records in the 400 free and medley relays.

Scoring in the girls 11/12 age group were Anna Turner, 12, placing seventh in the 100 free, 12th in the 50 free, 14th in the 50 fly, and 20th in the 100 IM; Julia Weiner, 12, placing 12th in the 50 back; and Emma Brody, 12, placing 15th in the 50 free. 

Girls also scoring in the 13/14 age group were Hannah Snyder, 13, placing ninth in the 200 IM, 10th in the 100 fly, and 19th in the 200 free; Katie Nejati, 14, placing 10th in the 100 breast and 14th in the 200 breast; Jenna Leonard, 13, placing 14th in the 100 breast; Paige Bernhardt, 14, placing 16th in the 200 IM; and Moira Lee, 13, placing 18th in the 100 breast.

The trio of 18-year-old girls Jaime Knippenberg, Kelliann Valedon and Emily Motill also placed in the top 20; Jaime 20th in the 100 and 200 fly, Kelliann 19th in the 100 fly and 20th in the 200 IM; and Emily 20th in the 200 fly.

RAC's high school boys placing in the top 20 but who may not score for RAC because they are still in their high school swim season were Kevin Santoro, 15, placing fourth in the 1000 free, fifth in the 200 back, and sixth in the 500 free; Jordan Voves, 17, placing eighth in the 200 IM, ninth in the 200 breast, 11th in the 100 fly and 100 breast; Gavin Lee, 15, placing seventh in both the 1650 and 1000 free; John Tusa, 17, placing ninth in the 1000 free and 17th in the 500 free; and Liam Reibling, 14, placing 13th in the 1650, 19th in the 100 fly, and 20th in the 200 IM and 50 free.
