Kunar and Scalera were hand selected by the Milan Junior America’s coaches and the Italian Soccer Academy during the Connecticut Milan Junior Americas camp to play in Copa Americana Bogota.

Copa Americana Bogota is not just a soccer tournament — it's a cultural event that allows the exchange of experiences, culture and sports customs.

The event provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills on a global scale.

It features the best International Italian Soccer Academy, Milan Junior Champ, and Milan Junior Elite Teams consisting of players competing against other clubs all across the globe from the USA, Aruba, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and many others countries.

“This is a very small beginning, small taste, that they are going to have at being a professional soccer player,” said Coach Sebastian Rojas.

Started in 2011, Revolution United FC provides players ages 5 to 19 a player- and family-centered approach to improving soccer skills.

In Colombia, Scalera used his foot skills, which he credits to Coach Rojas, to be able to compete at such a high level.

“In Revolution, we learn to pass and work together, not just boot and scoot,” he said. "In Colombia, I learned how to head the ball because they don’t have restrictions on this there.”

At the age of 2, Scalera, now 9, began playing soccer, where he met Rojas at a soccer clinic.

Kunar, who hails from Easton, started playing soccer when he was 5 years old. He started playing with RUFC at just 7. Now at 9, his dedication and love for soccer has led him to an incredible opportunity.

“[Coach Roja] says winning is great, but it’s not all about the winning at my age. It’s about using all of the tactical and technical skills I learn and applying them on the field; and if I know I have done that, then I am proud of myself,” said Kunar.

When asked about his experience in Colombia, Kunar reflected on all of the people he met.

“I look forward to spending the time with all the other kids from different countries who are on the team.  I have made some nice friends.”
