The kindergartners anxiously got off of the bus and were greeted by their enthusiastic principal, Keith Margoles, along with other staff members.
Some of the staff members escorted groups of the new kindergartners to each of their new classrooms.
The school year started off on a happy note as the kids came in style with their new backpacks — ranging from Frozen to Ninja Turtles.
The students arrived between 8:25 and 8:40 a.m.
Parents and students who don't ride the bus, they can use the “kiss and drive” for drop-off in the rear parking lot between 8:25 and 8:35 a.m.
For more information on dropping off and picking up students, you can visit the school website.
Wednesday will be a repeat of the first day for some in Ridgefield. Students in kindergarten through ninth grade had their first day of school Tuesday. Students in grades 10 through 12 at Ridgefield High School will return to school for their first day on Wednesday.
Among the new faces in Ridgefield this year is Superintendent Karen Baldwin. Baldwin is the former superintendent of Suffield Public Schools, where she served since 2011. She also served as the superintendent of Watertown Public Schools from 2008 to 2011. Her appointment by the Ridgefield Board of Education was announced in November and she took over leadership of the district in July.
