Parents will be introduced to some members of the school staff, registration forms will be reviewed, and information will be distributed. The dates are as follows:
- Branchville — Monday, Feb. 22
- Barlow Mountain — Monday, Feb. 29
- Farmingville — Tuesday, Feb. 23
- Ridgebury — Wednesday, Feb. 24
- Scotland — Thursday, Feb. 25
- Veterans Park — Friday, Feb. 26
Children who reach the age of five on or before Jan. 1, 2017, are eligible for enrollment. Under state statutes, the mandatory age for children to start school is five. Any parent who chooses to exempt a child from kindergarten must meet with the local school principal to complete exemption papers.
Parents need to bring the following to registration: a completed Ridgefield Public Schools registration form, child’s original birth certificate or unexpired passport, parent photo ID, proof of residence (warranty deed, mortgage statement, tax bill, or lease agreement and two utility bills), and proof of immunizations with specific dates (month/day/year) for polio (IPV or OPV), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Haemophilus influenzae type b (HIB), hepatitis B and diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTaP), chicken pox (Varivax), Hepatitis A, and pneumococcus signed and stamped by a physician. Also, any other pertinent health information is to be included on the student medical history form.
During kindergarten orientation in May, parents may listen to a presentation about kindergarten. On either the registration date or during the orientation, there will be sign-up for the mini-kindergarten program taking place from May 23 to 26. Each child will attend on a specific day for one hour with other pre-kindergarten students.
Elementary school principals will send information packets to those parents known to have prospective kindergartners. Parents of kindergarten-age children who have not received a packet may call their school to obtain information and arrange registration. Phone numbers for the schools are:
