Visitors were greeted with a picture of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and a message in Arabic that said, "There is no God but God. Mohamad is the profit of God," NBC Connecticut Reported.

A group called Team System DZ, which was blamed for hacking local government websites over the summer, took responsibility for the 4 a.m. hack, according to NBC Connecticut. All 800 websites that were hacked were operated with the "School Desk" service, which is based in Georgia, according to NBC Connecticut.

Interim Superintendent Lorrie Rodrigue told NBC Connecticut that there was no imminent threat to Newtown schools, and that while the district website was back up by 7 a.m., it was taken down an hour later to make sure it could not happen again.

The police presence was increased at Newtown schools on Monday so that parents could be sure that children were safe coming to school, Rodrigue told NBC Connecticut. She said that was in reaction to the hacking, not to the shooting in Texas on Sunday that left more than two dozen people dead, NBC Connecticut reported.

The hack is being investigated by both local police and the FBI, according to NBC Connecticut.
