Potholes will also be filled and brush will be cut back along roadways, the announcement said.
Stamford Mayor David Martin and Director of Operations Ernie Orgera said the work will continue into fall and finish up in North Stamford in October.
“I have heard from concerned residents throughout Stamford that streets need attention and other residents who are concerned about trash and debris getting into the Sound,” said Martin. In addition to street sweeping, and catch basin clearing, city crews will take note of potholes, overgrown weeds and brush, and have these items addressed as well.
“Flooding and ponding on streets can often be attributed to clogged catch basins, so the street sweeping will help eliminate debris that ends up in catch basins, and ultimately in Long Island Sound,” Martin said.
Finally, to perform street sweeping, cars must be moved off many streets. The City of Stamford said it will provide adequate notice and post signs in advance of street cleaning.
