The two men were walking down Mission Street at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a gunman approached them shot one towards them, police told the Stamford Advocate. The victim was hit in the stomach and his friend, 19-year-old Dhakedi Jackson, returned fire once at their assailant, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Jackson was taken into custody Saturday night and charged with criminal attempt at first-degree assault, possession of a handgun without a permit, and altering the serial number on a firearm, the Stamford Advocate reported.

Police told the Stamford Advocate that they seized a Glock Model 27 .40 caliber handgun from Jackson that had the serial numbers filed off. Jackson's bond was raised from $250,000 to $600,000 because he fired back in broad daylight when people may have been out in the streets, the Stamford Advocate reported.

The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries, according to the Stamford Advocate. The incident remains under investigation.
