Two separate groups called for taxis just after 3 a.m. Saturday. When one cab showed up, the 27-year-old victim got in, Detective Capt. Michael Russo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Darrion Mansfield, 19, of North Bergen, who was with the other group, then dragged the man out of the car and began beating him, Russo said.

Mansfield’s friends got involved, Russo said, identifying them as Mario Medina, also 19, and Jonathan Seguen, 24, both of North Bergen.

The victim’s friends also joined in. They’re identified as Gustavo Rivera, 23, of North Bergen, and Jose Castillo-Rivera, 27, of Cliffside Park.

The combatants scattered as police came roaring up, Russo said.

“They left the victim unconscious, right in the middle of the intersection,” he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

He was taken to Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen with head trauma and was later transferred to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, where he remains in stable condition.

Meanwhile, Mansfield is being held on $100,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated assault, rioting, drinking under the legal age and hindering prosecution by giving false information to police.

The rest have since been released, pending court hearings on a variety of charges, including rioting, hindering arrest and underage drinking.

Medina also faces a second-degree aggravated assault charge.
