The buyer -- Charter Group Partners -- plans to build 54 condominiums and townhouses for adults ages 55 and up on the site. The final vote was 1,114 to 450, according to the NewsTimes.com.

The town has hotly debated the future of the Schlumberger property, located on Old Quarry Road, over the past several years. Voters have rejected two previous proposals for the site in the past year.

The town paid $7 million to buy a total of 45 acres in 2012 from the Schlumberger-Doll Research Center.

A 5-acre parcel was sold to developer Steve Zemofor $1.25 million, and the town retains 30 acres for its use, according to the News Times.
