And in an email sent to the media and the party faithful from the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee, the new date has been revealed: Sunday, Nov. 2, just two days before Election Day.

In an announcement that begins with "GREAT NEWS," the Democrats said, "It’s going to be a great event with President Obama, Governor Dan Malloy, and Democratic candidates and elected officials from across Connecticut. You won’t want to miss it."

The Democrats said more details will be released soon. They could not say where the rally would be held or at what time.

Obama had been scheduled to attend a rally the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the gym at Bridgeport Central High School. But the president canceled the campaign appearance as well as one in New Jersey to remain in Washington, D.C., to deal with the emerging Ebola crisis in the country.

The rally is on behalf of Malloy, who is locked in a tight gubernatorial rematch against GOP challenger Tom Foley.

In a Quinnipiac University poll released earlier this month, Foley and Malloy were in a dead heat, with 43 percent of the vote each.

Malloy beat Foley by a narrow 6,400 votes in 2010, but won 81 percent of the vote in Bridgeport. The Nov. 2 rally is viewed as a Democratic push to increase voter turnout in Bridgeport, the largest city in the state and a heavily Democratic city.

In 2010, Obama appeared at a rally with Malloy at the Arena at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport on the Saturday before the election.

In March, Malloy appeared with Obama at a rally to raise the minimum wage at Central Connecticut State University, where the president praised the governor for his work to raise the minimum wage in Connecticut.
