Rice will present “Envisioning Our Global Future” to kick off the university’s Open VISIONS Forum lecture series on Sept. 28.
Tickets to the 8 p.m. talk are on sale now.
Rice made headlines this week when she told House investigators that she looked into the identities of some of then-President-elect Donald Trump’s senior advisers to find out why the crown prince of the United Emirates was in the U.S. late last year. The meeting between top Trump officials and Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed happened just before efforts to create lines of communications between the Trump administration and Russia.
Prior to her four-year stint as national security adviser to President Barack Obama, Rice was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Rice has been vocal on the world stage since leaving office. She recently wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times entitled “It’s Not Too Late on North Korea,” in which she said, “it’s past time that the United States started exercising its power responsibly.” She plans to elaborate on her thoughts at Fairfield University.
A Truman Scholar at Stanford University, Rice was also a Rhodes Scholar, completing her doctorate at Oxford University. She was assistant secretary of state for African Affairs under President Bill Clinton.
She was the second youngest person and the first African American to be named United Nations ambassador.
“How fitting at this moment in time to launch our season with a high-level diplomat of Ambassador Rice’s stature,” said Open VISIONS moderator and Fairfield professor Philip Eliasoph. “We are anticipating a forward-looking presentation where Ambassador Rice will offer us a current state of the world review from her very unique perspective.”
Tickets are $35 with discounts for Quick Center members and Fairfield students.
The Artisan at Delamar Southport will host a private dinner reception with Rice earlier in the evening. Tickets for that are $150, $250 for a couple. Reception tickets include the lecture.
