Psaki, a 1996 graduate of Greenwich High School, will take over her new duties April 1. She is currently the spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department.
She will replace Jennifer Palmieri, who is leaving the White House to work with Hillary Clinton in an expected bid to run for president in 2016.
Psaki, 36, worked as the traveling press secretary for Obama when he ran for president in 2008. She was the deputy press secretary and deputy communications director before becoming the State Department spokeswoman in 2013.
Psaki was a standout on the Greenwich High swim team and was a captain of the team in her senior year. She graduated from William & Mary. She also attended Convent of the Sacred Heart and Greenwich Country Day. She is the daughter of Eileen Medvey, who lives in Stamford, and Jim Psaki.
Psaki is no stranger to controversy in her role with the State Department. In 2014, she was criticized when she launched a social media attack on Russia that was nearly universally ridiculed as “hashtag diplomacy.”
