McLachlan, a Republican, will be at the Food Bag Citgo on West Street from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday to talk to motorists about the gas tax hike and what he is trying to do to prevent the tax.

Connecticut’s current taxes on a gallon of gas total about 47 cents. The July 1 tax hike will tack on about four more cents per gallon.

“Connecticut taxpayers are already fed up,” McLachlan said. “When this gas tax hike hits in about a week, it will hurt businesses and families in greater Danbury and across the state. I hope to see many area residents on Monday afternoon.”

At the Citgo, McLachlan will be asking motorists to sign an "Axe the Gas Tax" petition. More than 3,500 taxpayers have already signed the petition online.
