Boucher, a Republican, is the incumbent in the race for the 26th District, which represents Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

She is chief deputy minority leader in the Senate and ranking member of the General Assembly’s Transportation, Education and Higher Education Committees. She is facing off against Democrat Philip Sharlach in this year’s election.

“You (Senator Boucher) are one of the few elected officials to receive our official endorsement this year,” said Andrew Matthews, president of the Connecticut State Police Union, in a statement.

“Your commitment to public safety and trooper safety is truly appreciated by the entire union membership.”

The organization represents more than 1,000 members of the state’s police force.

“It is our firm belief that your (Boucher’s) election to the state legislature is in the best interests of the residents of Connecticut as well as our thousand of members who serve as sworn police officers throughout the state,” said AFSCME executive director Jeffrey Matchett in a statement.

The AFSCME Council 15 of the AFL-CIO represents nearly 4,000 law enforcement officers from more than 60 Connecticut communities.

“I’m honored and proud to receive the endorsements of both our municipal and state police unions,” Boucher said in a press release.

“Our uniformed police officers are on the front lines and put themselves at risk everyday to protect us in our towns and on our highways. Their work is critical to our public safety, and I have worked hard to support them through my efforts on the Transportation Committee as well as my voting record on many anti-crime bills.”
