WILTON, Conn. -- A car stopped for going nearly 40 mph over the speed limit in Wilton on Saturday was found to have a handgun in it, as well as drugs and several fake IDs, according to police.

Police stopped a car at the intersection of Danbury Road and Old Mill Road in Wilton after it was caught traveling 77 mph in a 40 mph zone, police said. There were seven people in the car, despite the fact that it only had five seats, police said. Officers could also detect the odor of marijuana coming from the car, according to police.

A search of the car turned up a handgun in the driver's side door, as well as marijuana, Xanax pills, paraphernalia and several fraudulent IDs, according to police.

The driver, 20-year-old Benjamin Knaus of Ross, Calif., was charged with speeding, overcrowded motor vehicle, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, and four counts of third-degree forgery. His bond was set at $5,000.

A passenger, 21-year-old Andrew Manasia of Glen Cove, NY, was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to keep drugs in the original container. His bond was set at $1,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 14.
