Tractor-Trailer Strikes, Kills Man Pushing Car On Side Of I-95 In Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. — A Westchester man struck and killed by a tractor-trailer was pushing hit out-of-gas car on I-95 in Greenwich on Saturday when the accident occurred, according to Fox 61 Connecticut.

Carlos Coyt-Orozco of Port Chester, N.Y., and his passenger were pushing the car along the right shoulder of southbound I-95 after it ran out of gas, Fox 61 Connecticut said, citing Connecticut State Police.

The tractor-trailer driver, John Hoffman of Gloucester, N.J., was blinded by sun glare on a curve in the road and drifted into the shoulder, hitting Coyt-Orozco, who was pushing and steering the car while standing on the driver's side door, the Fox 61 said.

Coyt-Orozco was taken to Weschester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was pronounced dead.

Traffic tie-ups were reported for miles Saturday after the 4:30 p.m. accident closed the right and center lanes on I-95 south between Exits 3 and 2.

The accident remains under investigation.
