RIDGEFIELD, CONN. -- An osteopathic doctor from Ridgefield, who pleaded guilty last year to committing health care fraud has been disciplined by the state Medical Examining Board, according to a report by The Ridgefield Press.
Dr. David L. Johnston, operator of the Osteopathic Wellness Center, spent several months behind bars and had to pay restitution in connection with a scheme to defraud Medicare and private health insurers, according to The Ridgefield Press article.
In explaining the terms of his guilty plea in a press release last year, Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut, said Johnston had faced a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
The Ridgefield Press reported that the board fined Johnston $3,000, placed him on probation for three years, and also ordered audits of his practice for two years after he starts billing insurers and Medicare again.
