Search for Ridgefield Runner Suspended Overnight

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – The search for a 44-year-old Ridgefield man has been postponed overnight due to the dark and storms.

David Riek was reported as an overdue runner after he didn't return home from his morning run Saturday. According to Ridgefield Fire Chief Heather Burford, Riek had been expected home around 8:30 a.m. after running in the Florida Road area of town.

"We brought everyone in due to the dangers of the weather and have now postponed the search until tomorrow morning due to darkness. It's too dangerous to have people in the woods," Burford said in an email.

Over the course of the day, there were around 35 volunteers on the roads and trails around town and about 25 emergency service workers were on hand to assist in the search, Burfor said.

The search will continue Sunday morning when plans and any overnight changes have been put in place. The police and fire department will be monitoring all overnight leads and information that comes in.

If anyone has any information they are encouraged to call the police department at 203-431-6531.
