Francine Philippo, 52, was charged with third-degree larceny, issuing a bad check and failure to appear in court. She was held on $5,000 bond and will appear in court July 28.

Police were alerted by Stew Leonard's that Philippo had written bad checks at the store on four occasions in January and February, according to police reports.

One check for $1,060 was returned due to insufficient funds, and the three others, worth a total of about $1,800, were returned because the account had been closed, police said.

Norwalk's fraud unit investigated the case and issued a warrant for her arrest.

This week, Philippo was arrested by Ridgefield police on an unrelated warrant. Norwalk police were notified Thursday that she was in custody, and picked her up and took her to Norwalk, where she was processed on the larceny charges.
