RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Police Department has launched the "U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY." initiative to crack down on texting while driving.
Ridgefield Police will have extra patrols looking for cellphone and texting violations on different days throughout April.
The fines for violating Connecticut's cellphone and texting law ranges from $150 for a first offense to $300 for a second offense and $500 for each subsequent incident.
Funding for the initiative came through the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office.
