Ridgefield Police Lt. John McAllister Retires After 30 years

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Lt. John McAllister, who has served on the Ridgefield Police Department for 30 years, recently announced his retirement.

McAllister, a Fairfield County native, joined the department in 1986 after serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2001.

In addition to being a shift commander, McAllister was responsible for training the members of the department and was a state-certified instructor in firearms, use of force, pursuit driving and accident investigation, according to a press release. In addition to training Ridgefield officers, McAllister also taught officers throughout Fairfield County, according to a press release.

He also served on the department's accident investigation team from its inception.

McAllister received numerous awards and commendations during his career from local residents, as well as state and national offices and groups, according to a press release.
