The slur had been painted onto the door of the High Clear Drive home on Jan. 14. The home is owned by Heather Lindsay, who is white, and she shares it with her husband, Lexene Charles, who is black. Lindsay had refused to have the slur cleaned because she did not think that police were doing enough to conduct a proper investigation into who had committed the vandalism.

Lindsay discovered Wednesday morning that somebody had painted over the slur with black paint, the Stamford Advocate reported. She had installed security cameras, but they did not pick up whoever committed the second vandalism, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The city had issued a blight citation against Lindsay for failing to clean up the slur. The citation carries with it a $100 fine. She had refused to have it cleaned until a proper investigation was conducted, despite offers from both Stamford Mayor David Martin and Police Chief Jonathan Fontneau to personally paint it themselves.

After she met with Martin and members of the NAACP, the city agreed on Monday to lift the $100 per day fine, according to the Stamford Advocate. Lindsay had also planned to take the city up on its offer to replace the garage door as long as the investigation continued, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Police are investigating the covering up of the slur, the Stamford Advocate reported.
