Pedestrian In Center Of Roadway Killed By Car On Newtown Road In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. — A 44-year-old man walking near the middle of Newtown Road was struck by a car and killed on Saturday evening, Danbury police said.

A serious motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of 14 Newtown Road was reported at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Eric Lucas of Danbury was walking near the center line of the roadway and was struck by a westbound vehicle on Newtown Road between Beaver Brook and Old Shelter Rock Roads, near Klaff's, police said. 

The driver, Joan Ledoux, 74, was westbound in her 2004 Dodge Neon, and did not see Lucas walking in the road, police said. 

The driver’s side front of the vehicle struck Lucas, police said. 

He was transported to Danbury Hospital, where he died, police said. 

This accident is under investigation by the Danbury Police Department’ Traffic Division. Anyone who witnessed or who has information about this collision is asked to contact Sgt. Rory DeRocco at 203-797-2157.
