The high enforcement period began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 30 and will run through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Troopers are focusing on drunken driving, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols are also in place through the holiday.
State police have investigated 304 accidents on state highways and roads between Friday and Monday morning. These include 40 accidents with injuries, though there have been no fatal accidents this weekend.
During this time, state police have issued tickets for 1,895 moving violations, including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, distracted driving and seat belt violations. They have issued 881 speeding tickets, and made 39 DUI arrests.
During the 2016 Independence Day weekend, state police issued tickets for 2,913 moving violations, including 1,227 speeding tickets. They made 39 DUI arrests and investigated 315 accidents. These included 45 accidents with injuries, and two accidents that resulted in three fatalities.
