The officer involved was identified as Ridgefield Police Officer Jorge Romero, a seven-year veteran of the department, said the state police, which is investigating the shooting. As per department policy, Romero has been assigned to departmental administrative duty pending a review, state police said.

According to a State Police statement, Ridgefield officers responding to a report of a domestic dispute at 423 Ridgebury Road arrived and found Valluzzo, 75, in the yard of the home. Officers ordered him to lower his weapon, state police said. When he refused and raised his gun to the officers, Romero fired his weapon at Valluzzo, state police said.

Valluzzo was declared dead shortly after being taken to Danbury Hospital. Romero was not injured but also brought to the hospital for treatment.

At the request of the Danbury state's attorney and the Ridgefield Police Chief, the Western District Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
