The woman, a nanny, was walking down High Pasture Court to take an infant in her care indoors after already taking another child inside a home, according to Fire Chief Heather Burford.

The woman was transported to Danbury Hospital, complaining of pain on her right side. The infant was also evaluated by paramedics.

The Ridgefield Fire Department responded to a call of the lightning strike at about 11:25 a.m., Burford said.

"As she was preparing to remove the infant she states that lightning struck her umbrella,” Burford wrote in an email. “She indicated she saw sparks and felt a pain on her right side. Her chief complaint was right shoulder pain.”

According to what she told the emergency responders, the woman never lost consciousness and called 911.

No further information was available regarding the nanny and children’s conditions.
