BROOKFIELD, Conn. — A couple with a young child were displaced from their Brookfield home after a smoky fire in the basement on Wednesday evening, according to WLAD-AM.

Firefighters from across the area responded to fight the blaze in a house at 60 Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield.

The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department's line officers were all at HQ for the monthly officers meeting and were quick to respond.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which was reported just before 7 p.m., according to the Brookfield Fire Department. The basement fire was in the area of the clothes dryer.

Crews overhauled the site and vented the home with numerous fans. Units were clear by 8:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brookfield Fire Marshal.

Candlewood Lake Road was closed from Federal Road to Rocky Road during to the Fire Department activity. Mutual aid was provided by Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, and Germantown Volunteer Fire.
