After the police found no corroborating evidence of the incident, the Bridgeport woman retracted her story, police said.

She initially claimed she had been sexually assaulted at 11:45 a.m. Aug. 1, on a path leading from the parking lot to the beach, near to the guard shack, police said.

The Detective Bureau determined the woman was not at Jennings Beach that day, according to police.

Police have not decided whether to pursue charges against the woman for the false complaint.
