At 6:13 a.m. Monday, Fairfield Police were alerted by an anonymous complaint that a juvenile student had posted a potential threat on the social media app.

"The anonymous complaint indicated that a student posted a digital picture of an assault-type rifle with overwritten text 'Don’t come to school tomorrow'," police said in a statement.

The investigation determined that there were two juveniles involved, both of whom were located at their respective homes in Fairfield as they were leaving for school, police said.

"It was also determined that the message was posted as a private joke," police said.

The photo was determined to be of an airsoft rifle, which was found in the home of the juvenile who posted the Snapchat, police said.

It was unclear whether this investigation was related to rumors of police activity at Mill Hill Elementary School on Monday morning. Mill Hill principal Kevin Chase sent an email to parents Monday that social media reports of "significant amount of police activity" at the school were not true.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department School Safety Unit at 203-255-8342, or Text-A- Tip to CRIMES (274637).
