At about 2 p.m. Friday, the Danbury Fire Department was dispatched to 23 McDermott St. on the report of smoke coming from the house, fire department spokesman James Gagliardo said.

The first units on the scene confirmed there was a working fire, he said.

Firefighters forced entry in to the home, where high heat and low visibility conditions were present, Gagliardo said.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze, completed a search of the home and ventilated the remaining smoke, he said.

All occupants of the home and their pets are safe, Gagliardo said.

Eversource was called to the scene to secure the utilities to the residence until repairs can be made, he said.

The fire remained under investigation by the Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office, which is determining the cause.
