Danbury Firefighters Knock Down Blaze In Package Store

DANBURY, Conn. — No one was injured when a liquor store at 88 North St. in Danbury was damaged in an early morning fire on Tuesday, according to media reports.

Firefighters in Danbury tackled the blaze, which started just before 6 a.m. in the front corner of Tony Gallo's Hi-Way Package Store, said NBC Connecticut.

Residents of the apartments above the store escaped unharmed, and none of the apartments was damaged, NBC Connecticut said.

The package store, located about a block from an entrance ramp to I-84, was the scene of the murder of store manager Robert Gallo on Jan. 18, 1999, according to the News-Times.

Tommie Martin was sentenced to 75 years in prison, and his cousin, Carlton Martin, was sentenced to 90 years, for shooting Gallo five times and stealing an armload of cheap brandy, the News-Times said.
